Two Unique Boats for Unforgettable Moments

Grillfloss.berlin offers floating event venues and barbecue rafts for trips on Lake Tegel. The boats, named “Ente” (German: duck) and “Erpel” (German: drake), are equipped with a Weber gas barbecue, a fridge, a sound system, a restroom (on-board toilet with washbasin) and space for groups of 19 to 30 people. As the rafts are operated by a skipper, no boat licence is required.

Unpaid personal favors, including the design of the logo, the development of the corporate identity and various print templates. In addition to the company name, the colour ‘red’ was specified as a design requirement. As breaking up or distorting the long company name would inevitably impair legibility, I chose to center it and design the rest of the logo around it. The graphic elements chosen were those that are easily recognisable, such as anchors, barbecue utensils and wave shapes, with the aim of evoking positive memories. All lengths and widths, as well as sizes and spacing, are based on the golden ratio.

Although the logo isn’t generic or conformative, it is nonetheless suitable for marketing all kinds of events – whether it’s a lively party or a professional team-building event.

The color scheme is consistently applied throughout the entire design, which enhances recognisability. The red conveys warmth, joy and cosiness, and complements the lovingly designed décor.

The logo can be easily applied to any advertising medium, as it remains recognisable in different sizes despite its finer details. When used in conjunction with the brand’s own colour, it is significantly more recognisable.

The signage also stands out against the water, as the red color contrasts with the surroundings. This means that the boats act as advertising media in their own right whilst in operation.
